Greetings!
I am a Saugeen Shores-based Mental Health and Poverty advocate.
My broader interests are in shaking up the top-down model of governance and administration, with the aim of dispensing with arbitrary hierarchies altogether—or at least, of finding ways to work around them. My immediate concerns are to address numerous user-related problems in accessing community services in and around Saugeen Shores.
Important resources are located as far afield as Kincardine or Walkerton. Agencies, organizations and service providers—even those who deal with each other routinely—do not always keep each other abreast of their activities, nor actively coordinate their resources. Unsurprisingly, community members are frequently ill-informed about what services are available and how best to obtain and use them. Moreover—and perhaps unconscionably—some community members also suffer because of limited access to the givens of 21st Century communications: free high-speed Internet, ready information sources and funded community telecommunications, access to transportation within communites, etc....
These can all be remedied by a modicum of creativity and good will on the part of administrators. The latter is probably not lacking. As for the former, that's what WE'RE here for, no?
