Building resilience in the Saugeen Region.

Please check this out and maybe send the attachment to the county wardens at the addresses indicated. Grey County is already taking action on including bike lanes on any new road surfacings, Let's ask Bruce to do the same...Donato Cianci, Dorle Eppler, Janet Jephcott

To all cyclists ...please take a moment and read the following

Its time for some real change and real action to improve the safety of cyclists in this province and in particular the counties within which you do most of your riding. For many of us it is on Grey and Bruce County roads.

Share the road sign programs work TO EDUCATE DRIVERS...they work for other provinces and nearly half of the US states.

Drivers must be made aware of the laws regards SHARING THE ROADS and be reminded they are likely to encounter bicycles ....just as they are reminded of the speed limit etc.
Most people would agree that education of drivers need to share the road and cyclists safe use of the roads are of key importance.
Driver awareness of cyclists and the law regarding sharing the road may be our best defense.

I am proposing that every cyclist and friend of cyclists email the wardens of both county expressing the need for a 'SHARE THE ROAD' SIGN program on all county roads.
I believe most county officials understand the need and are prepared to respond in respect for the safety and care of cyclists on the roads....and of course for the future of tourism in the area.

You may copy and paste the following or express it in your own words. Please forward this email to other cyclists.

To:
Throughout this county there are road signs regarding speed limits, pedestrians, livestock, slow moving farm equipment and school busses.....but nothing regards cyclists using the same roads. Bicyclists on the roadway need protection as well. Motorists need to be reminded that bicyclists are legitimate road users, and alerted to their presence.
I am asking that this county initiate a 'share the road' sign program. Its proven effective in 17 US states and other Cdn provinces.

While many locations could ultimately benefit from bike lanes or other facilities changes, installing “Share the Road” signs is a fast, cheap, effective way of improving traffic conditions for bicyclists and motorists and there is little doubt tourism now and of the future includes cycling. Its time to get do the right thing.

Sincerely,
