Towards a new economy and a new politics by Gus Speth In Brief: The U.S. political economy is failing across a broad front—environmentally, socially, economically, and politically. Deep, systemic change is needed to transition to a new economy, one where the acknowledged priority is to sustain human and natural communities. Policies are available to effect this transformation and to temper economic growth and consumerism while simultaneously improving social well-being and quality of life, but… Continue

I must agree that something must be done for nature now....

As a reminder...I have embedded photos of the region...just to show the beauty the encircles us all...

subtle small steps towards protecting our environment must be replaced by large scale movements towards environmentalism. The warnings from nature come by increased instability in weather, poisons trapped in the our entire water supply, increased expansion of the human population into what s… Continue

Douglas Nadler AFFIRMATIVE ACTION FOR NATURE IS NEEDED NOW

Affirmative Action for Nature will move us towards a Just and Prosperous Society

“What now remains compared with what then existed is like the skeleton of a sick man, all the fat and soft earth having wasted away, and only the bare framework of the land being left.” From Plato’s Critias written around 360 B.C.

Richard-Yves Sitoski By Way of Introduction....

Greetings! I am a Saugeen Shores-based Mental Health and Poverty advocate. My broader interests are in shaking up the top-down model of governance and administration, with the aim of dispensing with arbitrary hierarchies altogether—or at least, of finding ways to work around them. My immediate concerns are to address numerous user-related problems in accessing community services in and around Saugeen Shores. Important resources are located as far afield as Kincardine or Walkerton. Agencies, o… Continue

William Cook New Local paper

Given the recent appointment of Sun Times editor Micheal DenTandt to become Regional Editor for central Ontario while still retaining his current duties in Owen Sound and the decline of the Sun Times in quality(both from a local news perspective/advertising decline). It is pretty obvious that shortly the OS Sun times will either close down or be so Out-sourced that it will no longer be a "Local paper". Given that the Localmotive project is about revitilazing our local economy is it not time to p… Continue

Shane Jolley That’s Premier Bognor Bill to you...

For a while I thought I could resist weighing in on last week’s hoopla over Bill Murdoch’s desire to give Toronto the big rubber boot out of Ontario. After all it’s maple syrup season and time’s-a-wastin’, but after reading several Toronto based commentaries on the fracas, I simply couldn’t sit it out.

Douglas Nadler 'EARTH DAY' BELONGS TO ALL OF US

Earth Day Canada has filed an application to trademark again the name “Earth Day” and everything associated with it as an event, including merchandising, the use to the name, and the day itself. Concerned citizens are worried about the law suits Earth Day Canada has been making to Canadian corporations. Is this a good use of donations?
Please join if you are concerned.

The following article is a must-read for anyone concerned with the future of your community or family. It is long, but please take 30 minutes and read it! It is written by Richard Heinburg, and closely parallels my own journey (albeit later) on the road to understanding our economic future.

Shane Jolley Heidi's Bar - "Derivatives 101" or "Drink Now, Pay Later"

I don't know who wrote this, but it explains the credit crisis in...well....terms that even a drunk can understand.

Shane Jolley Community...why bother?

The Oxford dictionary defines community as, “a group of interdependents growing or living together, or occupying a specified habitat". Webster adds, “joint ownership or participation”. The idea here is not only a mutually beneficial arrangement of a group of people, but one where each contributes and no man or woman is an island.Continue
