Nathan Carey replied to Gary Kenny's discussion 'Canadian Wheat Board' in the group Food & Agriculture
I stand by the wheat board on principal but don't know too much about the issue.  Thank-you for posting some background on it.  To me the question is how to fight Harper's majority for the next four years.  Wheat board,…

Pre-Enactment?

Thumbnail
I had what I think is a neat idea.  Lots of people participate in re-enactments of historic battles, notable times and whole eras.  There's black-creek pioneer village where kids can go to see how 'real' people lived over one hundred years ago.  What if we were to Pre-Enact what we want or think a post-peak, scarcity community might look like?   I think this project would have two phases.  Phase one is writing and conceptualizing and phase two is the actual 'performance.' I foresee phase one…See More

Moratorium on Alfalfa proposed - We have an important part to play!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-3_wa_bgOI     A few weeks ago bill C-474, a bill proposed to study the effects of GM crops on Canada's export markets was defeat.  Late last week the Liberal party made a proposal to place a moratorium on the approval of genetically modified alfalfa.  This proposal would give the government time to examine the effects that GM Alfalfa would have on farmers in Canada.  Beyond that this moratorium shows that…See More

Bill C-474 An Important Stand On Our Food System!

I've become really active on a particular issue at the moment that I've come to believe is incredibly important.  There's a bill being voted on Tomorrow (Wednesday!) that's really really simple.  It's basically one line that says: "Any new crops that are to be grown in Canada must first be studied to see what their effect on Export markets will be."Simple but the ramifications are massive for farmers, consumers - especially the organic sector.  Bother eaters and growers.  Just last week the USA…See More
