Brandy Patterson is attending the eventI grew up on a beef farm north of Paisley and have just moved back to Bruce County. For the past eight years I have been living in Victoria, BC where I worked in non-profit fundraising, administration & event management.
In April 2010 I completed my MA in Geography at the University of Victoria - A good investment: women and property ownership in a mid-twentieth century Canadian suburb, Oak Bay, British Columbia, 1940-1960
My passions include: green design, spending time with children, local food, networking, bright ideas, simple living, cycling, vintage Pyrex, building community and live music.
I am also a brand new Permaculture Designer and earned my certificate at OUR Ecovillage on Vancouver Island last summer with my husband Bruce. This fueled our interest in the movement and this past May we took a weekend Intro to Food Forestry with Richard Walker through Permaculture BC. This opened our minds to the true reality of growing our own food.
Bruce and I have just purchased our first home in Walkerton and we are expecting our first baby in October. We look forward to transforming our town lot into our own permaculture haven and to connecting with new people in Bruce, Grey & beyond about:
- sustainable living
- permaculture
- non-violent/mindful communication (NVC)
- attachment parenting
- local food
- live music
Please do get in touch if you are passionate about these things too!
Our 5 year goal is to be able to purchase a 5-10 acre property near Walkerton where we can build a natural home and grow our own food forest so that we can live sustainability, spend lots of time together, make enough money to live and pay off a student loan and focus on spending our time doing things we're passionate about.

I am currently looking for summer work with insurable hours so that I can take leave when our baby arrives. I am interested in almost any work that will help me meet this short term goal. Looking ahead to the next year, I am very interested in small business opportunities or contract work in the following areas:
- promoting local food
- community building
- simple living
- waste reduction and recycling
- teaching cycling skills
Any tips or recommendations would be very helpful - thank you!
