The Beginning of Transition Teeswater
Transition Teeswater was initiated in the fall of 2009 after formal Transition Training was undertaken by its steering committee members Charmila Ireland, Heather Pletsch, Gerry Taylor and Lynne Taylor.
The initial meeting was a presentation of the iconic film The End of Suburbia after which 27 interested people entered a round circle discussion about the film and how the concepts of it might impact Teeswater and surrounding communities and how the Transition approach could be of benefit. We had interested parties from not only Teeswater but Wingham, Seaforth, Dungannon, Formosa, Kincardine, and Lion's Head to name a few.
Our second event was a Clothing Swap-a chance for people in the community to come together, share the concepts of true 'free trade' while the message of reuse as a concept of sustainability was delivered.
February will bring a 100 mile Community Pot Luck Dinner at which there will be the showing of another important film, The Power of Community. We invite all other Transition Communities to participate. All will be welcome-please simply try to do the best you can at making a food item with local foodstuffs-it may not be ENTIRELY possible but in the attempt we might be able to identify what was not possible and it might open the door for producers to try to fill the void-that would be definite progress!
If you would like to help organize this event, please email transitionteeswater@reyouzd.com (Reyouzd.com will be hosting the Transition Teeswater Initiative until we are up on our feet and running!-you will be able to learn more about us at that site as we progress)
