The LocalMotive Project

Building resilience in the Saugeen Region.

If business is defined by growth... how do we get them involved in a movement that is heading the other direction. How do we get businesses to accept and take advantage of the TT movement...Please add your thoughts

Business has EVERYTHING to gain from the TT movement because it is all about building community. When you build community, its members will naturally support local business instead of heading for Walmart in neighbouring towns. To build strong Transition Communities, you have to first make sure the participants fully understand the problem so they are open to the solutions....The End of Suburbia is shown as a preface traditionally----it works well along with the discussions that follow. The Power of Community follows that to reinforce the important part community residents play in the resilience of their respective communities. Making sure that they understand WHY Export of Wealth is the death of community is also critical. You simply cannot have a transition based on financial pillars. Having gone through Transition Town Training, it became blatantly obvious that it is the social aspect of the three pillars of sustainability that we lack the most confidence in.....social support HAS to come first. Nothing else will happen without it.

Don't get me started!!!
Hi Ryan,
I was really responding to your statement when I did mine. I've never been involved with bloggs before so I guess I "started a discussion" by mistake. Please consider mine to be really a reply to yours!
