The LocalMotive Project

Building resilience in Saugeen.

The LocalMotive Project forms a model of economic re-localization, guided by the principles of community, resilience, and participation.

The Saugeen Trading Community

The Saugeen Trading Community is a regionally based monetary system located in the Grey & Bruce County region of Ontario. The STC endeavours to meet economic and social needs of the local community by providing a vehicle for the exchange of labour and goods. We promote self-reliance, community, responsibility, local autonomy and ecological sustainability. We support the spirit of cooperation and celebrate the diversity and abundance of skills and resources we have to offer each other.

Heidi's Bar - "Derivatives 101" or "Drink Now, Pay Later"

I don't know who wrote this, but it explains the credit crisis in...well....terms that even a drunk can understand.

Distributism

Another option to the social/capitalist poles would be distributism - which is the shared ownership of all capital assets, like factories, businesses etc. The common good or 'commons' once owned water, air, sunshine. But now big companies own fresh water, energy, solar roghts, seed patents, technology patents etc. Indirectly they also own food or sustenance rights - that is, if you can't pay, you do without. Principles of Community Based Economics

We live in an economic and political world characterized by several overarching themes. First, the need for ever-increasing and faster economic “growth”. Second, a rapidly increasing scale in terms of the size and power of business and government. Finally, the continuous concentration of wealth and power in the hands of fewer aContinue

A Great Day for the Local Food Movement.

Today is a great day for the local food movement.

Durham farmer Michael Schmidt was acquitted today on all charges related to his cow-share program. Members can now legally continue to obtain and consume raw milk through cow-share programs as they are technically "owners", not purchasers, of raw milk.
