The LocalMotive Project

Building resilience in the Saugeen Region.

The LocalMotive Project forms a model of economic re-localization, guided by the principles of community, resilience, and participation.

The Saugeen Trading Community

The Saugeen Trading Community is a regionally based monetary system located in the Grey & Bruce County region of Ontario. The STC endeavours to meet economic and social needs of the local community by providing a vehicle for the exchange of labour and goods. We promote self-reliance, community, responsibility, local autonomy and ecological sustainability. We support the spirit of cooperation and celebrate the diversity and abundance of skills and resources we have to offer each other.

Deep, systemic change is needed to transition to a new economy, one where the acknowledged priority is to sustain human and natural communities. Policies are available to effect this transformation and to temper economic growth and consumerism while simultaneously improving social well-being and quality of life, but… Continue

I must agree that something must be done for nature now....

As a reminder...I have embedded photos of the region...just to show the beauty the encircles us all...

subtle small steps towards protecting our environment must be replaced by large scale movements towards environmentalism. The warnings from nature come by increased instability in weather, poisons trapped in the our entire water supply, increased expansion of the human population into what s… Continue

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION FOR NATURE IS NEEDED NOW

Affirmative Action for Nature will move us towards a Just and Prosperous Society

“What now remains compared with what then existed is like the skeleton of a sick man, all the fat and soft earth having wasted away, and only the bare framework of the land being left.” From Plato’s Critias written around 360 B.C.

2010 Municipal Elections in Grey and Bruce Counties

Have your say! Probably for the first time ever, a Grey Bruce-wide survey is being undertaken to assess the level of satisfaction with local politicians and service delivery. The survey results will be posted later and will be made available to local media. Go to www.SurveyGreyBruce.ca, click on the municipal elections link (takes you to SurveyMonkey). The survey will take about 4-5 minutes. No personally identifying information will be collected.

GBSusNet Meeting May 18th....why attend?

GBSusNet has been created as a Not for Profit entity to support environmental and other sustainability initiatives, where needed, across the grey bruce region. Currently the group is hosting a Youth 4 Water career fair at a high school in Walkerton as part of the 10th Anniversary of the Walkerton Water Tragedy. Other projects are in the works including a regional sustainability assessment. We've had lots of good input over the first year from individuals and groups interested in collaborating

Summer Employment for youth working on biodiversity and climate issues

Youth Summer Employment, Leadership, Education and Love for Nature

“To the degree that we come to understand other organisms, we will place a greater value on them, and on ourselves.” Edward O. Wilson, “Biophilia”

By Way of Introduction....

Greetings!

I am a Saugeen Shores-based Mental Health and Poverty advocate.

My broader interests are in shaking up the top-down model of governance and administration, with the aim of dispensing with arbitrary hierarchies altogether—or at least, of finding ways to work around them. My immediate concerns are to address numerous user-related problems in accessing community services in and around Saugeen Shores.

Important resources are located as far afield as Kincardine or Walkerton. Agencies, o… Continue
