Cracking the Myths of the Methane Industry: Come out and see “Gasland

Cracking the Myths of the Methane Industry: Come out and see “Gasland”

“Hydraulic fracturing or fracking is a means of natural gas extraction employed in deep natural gas well drilling. Once a well is drilled, millions of gallons of water, sand and proprietary chemicals are injected, under high pressure, into a well. The pressure fractures the shale and props open fissures that enable natural gas to flow more freely out of the well.” Josh Fox, Film maker of the documentary, Gasland…

Polar Bears’ Plight and Occupy Wall Street Confront the Corporate State

“We know that the Canadian Government's domestic and international climate policy has been bought by the fossil fuel regime.” Cameron Fenton, Director of Canadian Youth Climate Coalition, writing from Durban, South Africa’s U.N. Climate Summit

The 1999 movie, “The Matrix”, starts off with it coming to light that humans have trashed the planet and the computers, who now run Earth, believe the planet is better off with the subjugation of humans. The computers run the planet like our…

George Monbiot on Wealth

George Monbiot: The 1% are the very best destroyers of wealth the world has ever seen

Our common treasury in the last 30 years has been captured by industrial psychopaths. That's why we're nearly bankrupt

guardian.co. Monday 7 November 2011

If wealth was the inevitable result of hard work and enterprise, every woman in Africa would be a millionaire. The claims that the ultra-rich 1% make for themselves – that they are possessed of unique intelligence or…

Wind is Good. Let's Celebrate its Wise Use!

Wind is fair and good. Let's Celebrate its Wise Use.

"The Province of Ontario is on course to phase out the use of coal by 2014 and has adopted what is probably the single most effective piece of legislation promoting renewable energy in North America.{The Green Energy Act} This kind of action takes vision and know-how and shows the strong potential for Canada to be a world leader in tackling climate change." Excerpt from Nobel Women's Initiative… Continue

First Vegetarian Restaurant Review

Georgian Triangle’s first Review of Great Vegetarian Restaurants

“Eating low on the food chain (i.e - vegan foods) ensures we are eating the least amount of toxins. Pollution carried around in the air and water gets concentrated 30 times in each animal that eats up the food chain. Even Organic meats are highly polluted because pollution is all around us. It is also a misconception that the vegan diet is more deficient than an animal foods diet. In fact, the fresh fruits, vegetables,…

Tim DeChristopher addressed the court and the judge today. This is what he said:

Thank you for the opportunity to speak before the court. When I first met Mr. Manross, the sentencing officer who prepared the pre-sentence report, he explained that it was essentially his job to “get to know me.” He said he had to get to know who I really was and why I did what I did in order to decide what kind of sentence was appropriate. I was struck by the fact that he was the first person in this courthouse to call me by my first name, or even really look me in the eye. I appreciate…

Reform, don't eliminate municipal governments.

In recent months, much discussion has arisen about eliminating the local municipalities and councils in Grey and Bruce and moving to a single tier municipal government.  The services provided by our towns and townships, from filling potholes to local land use planning, would become the responsibility of the county.  Proponents claim that such backward measures are required to address rising costs and encourage more cooperation across current municipal boundaries. …
